Say WHAAAA?? Yep, we've spent the last 5 posts decorating the outsides of the cupcake, and I knew I needed to do an inside surprise cupcake! This one is all dolled up for Valentine's day, and I couldn't have been happier with how fun they turned out!
It's actually easier than you'd think to make this happen. All you need is a small heart cookie cutter, and let's dive right in!
First, make your white cupcake batter, and reserve about 1 C of batter. Tint it red, pour it into a prepared 6" cake round, and bake until it's finished (mine took about 10 minutes at 325). Let cool completely, freeze for about a half hour wrapped in plastic wrap.
Next, press the small cookie cutter into the baked red cake round until you have about 8 of them or so, depending on the size of your cookie cutter.
Scoop about a tablespoon of cake batter into each cupcake liner, then put in your heart standing up. (remember which way your heart is facing in them, so when you slice into them, you'll get a heart, and not a line, haha). Fill the top and sides with cupcake batter (about a tablespoon on each side and on top - you don't want to overfill them!), then bake them for whatever directions your white cake recipe calls for.
Frost them on top (remember to keep track of which way your heart was facing!), and then you're all good to go! Pretty simple to pull off, and quite a fun Valentine's day statement in a cupcake!
Thanks so much for following along with my 6 Valentine's Day cupcake ideas! Hope you all have a fun lovers day in just a couple short weeks! :)
Hi Mandy! This is such a cute idea and I am definitely going to try it tomorrow! I do not have a 6 inch round... How much batter do you think I should put into an 8 inch round? Thanks for your help :)
